FILMING OF MOVIE AND TV SERIES “THE LINE” BEGINS IN ISTOČNA ILIDŽA

The first clapperboard for the feature film and TV series The Line in the Republic of Srpska has fallen in Istočna Ilidža. The project is inspired by motifs from The War Surgeon’s Diary by Dr. Miodrag Lazić.

Filming in Serbia began in mid-August at the Kovilj Monastery. The film and series are directed by Dragoljub Elčić, professor at the Academy of Arts in Belgrade, with the screenplay written by writer Željko Pržulj.

One of the most complex projects in domestic cinematography will feature more than 80 actors and over 2,000 extras. Shooting will continue until next spring, with the final scenes depicting the biblical exodus of Serbs from Sarajevo.

The premiere is scheduled for September 15 next year in Istočno Sarajevo, on the Day of Serbian Unity and National Flag.

“Our goal is to tell the world the story of our people, how things really were, and that we are different from the way we have been portrayed. This is a national project being carried out with the support of the institutions of Srpska and Serbia,” said Goran Ikonić, producer of The Line.

Film and TV series director Slobodan Stojanović announced that in about ten days, filming will take place in Vojkovići and Grlica to depict the Sarajevo frontline.

Dr. Miodrag Lazić left his position as a surgeon in Niš in 1991 and went to the Republic of Srpska Krajina. Later, as the only surgeon in then-Serbian Sarajevo during the war, he performed more than 3,500 operations.

Preparations for the beginning of the film took four years—about as long as Dr. Lazić spent saving lives on the Sarajevo frontline.
