WINE SQUARE IN DERVENTA ONCE AGAIN DELIGHTS VISITORS

Derventa was filled with wine, local products and a lively atmosphere over the weekend as the second edition of the “Wine Square” festival brought together numerous visitors and winemakers from across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Around ten wineries from the Kozara, Banja Luka and Majevica wine-growing regions presented their wines, while visitors had the opportunity to taste a variety of wines, local cheeses, meat products and other traditional specialties.

The event aims to promote local winemakers and wine routes, while strengthening Derventa’s position as an emerging wine destination in Republika Srpska.

The “Wine Square” also highlights the area’s long winemaking tradition. At the end of the 19th century, during the Austro-Hungarian period, a specialised fruit-growing and viticulture station was established on Babunovo Brdo near Derventa, reflecting the region’s longstanding connection with grape growing and wine production.

Building on this heritage, local authorities are also working towards connecting Derventa and neighbouring areas through a future wine route, which could further enrich the region’s tourism offer.

Among the exhibitors were wine producers from Derventa, Laktaši and Prnjavor. The Đuričić Winery presented wines made from both European and indigenous grape varieties, while Prnjavor-based Frateli Winery, which launched production in 2025 following experience and training in Italy, participated in the festival for the first time.

By bringing together winemakers, local producers and visitors, the “Wine Square” once again combined tradition with modern wine production and offered a taste of the region’s authentic flavours.

Organisers believe the event will continue to grow in the coming years, while the development of wine routes and stronger cooperation among local producers could further establish Derventa and the surrounding area as an attractive wine and tourism destination.
