Bijeljina has increased its tourist tax from two to three convertible marks, according to a statement from the city's Tourist Organization.
The decision officially came into effect on April 9.
Under the new regulation, a tourist tax of three marks will now be paid by both domestic and foreign citizens who stay overnight in hotels, motels, campsites, tourist resorts, guesthouses, hostels, lodgings, holiday homes, apartments, rooms for rent, rural tourism facilities, and other accommodation providers.
The previous rate of two marks had remained unchanged for the past 13 years, since the city's Tourist Organization was founded. The change was approved by the City Assembly during its most recent session.
The statement also notes that the decision aligns with a policy passed by the Government of Republika Srpska at the end of last year, which allowed local municipalities to raise their tourist tax rates.
The Tourist Organization of Bijeljina has announced that the additional funds generated from the increased tax will be invested in the development of the tourism sector.
