The first-ever Wine School, titled "From Grapes to Wine," will take place in Trebinje, organized in collaboration with the RICO Education Center from Belgrade at the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Trebinje.
According to Obren Gnjato, the director of this higher education institution, this is a unique training program that has not been available before in the Republic of Srpska.
"For years, we have been monitoring trends in tourism and noticed that in all tourist regions of the Republic of Srpska, despite their potential for wine production and distribution, as well as tourism and hospitality services, there is a lack of quality information about the wines offered and their characteristics. The same applies to Trebinje, where, apart from wineries, only basic information about wines is generally available. Considering this, we partnered with the RICO Center and Božo Ilić, who has years of experience in sommelier training in Serbia, to bring this type of education to our region," Gnjato explained, as reported by Radio Trebinje.
The program will feature experienced professors, experts, enologists, and wine connoisseurs.
"The lecturers will include renowned professors from Serbia, led by Slobodan Jović, head of the Department of Enology at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade, and one of the most prominent enologists in the region. Participants will learn everything about wine – its production, chemical composition, tasting, pairing with food, and more. Additionally, parts of the training will cover hot non-alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, gastronomy, management in wine distribution and marketing, offering a wide range of knowledge," Gnjato emphasized.
Applications are open for four programs:
Introductory Sommelier Training
Certified Sommelier Program
Wine Sensory Evaluation
Hotel Management
"Depending on the number of applicants, individual courses will be organized. The 'Wine School' is open to everyone – wine enthusiasts, those involved in wine production and distribution, tourism and hospitality workers, managers, waiters, chefs, winery employees, and anyone eager to learn more about wine," said Gnjato.
He added that the cost of each course will depend on the number of participants, with prices decreasing if more candidates sign up.
