Nestled in the village of Mačkovac, in the municipality of Lopare, “Lipe” is more than just a café—it is a living piece of Majevica’s history. Opened in 1968 by Božo Ristić, the café has served as a meeting place for locals, travelers, and artists for over fifty years.
Over the decades, “Lipe” became famous not only for its warm hospitality but also for its illustrious visitors. Among them were renowned actors Milena Dravić and Dragan Nikolić, who, along with other friends of revolutionary Cvijetin Mijatović, would relax here after long days, sharing stories, laughter, and local delicacies.
The Ristić family has preserved the café through generations. Božo’s grandsons, Slavko and Mirko Ristić, continue to honor the traditions of their grandfather, hosting literary evenings and keeping the spirit of community alive. It was here that the novel “So Soli” was brought to life, reflecting the turbulent history of Lopare and Majevica through stories of the past wars and local legends.
Visitors to “Lipe” are welcomed with more than just coffee or rakija. The café offers home-cooked specialties like roast pork, lamb, and seasonal dishes, staying true to the culinary traditions of the region. The aroma of fresh bread, cheese, and kajmak mingles with stories of the past, creating a timeless atmosphere where every guest feels at home.
For locals, “Lipe” is not just a place to eat and drink—it is a space for connection. Generations have grown up around its tables, sharing moments of joy, reflection, and community. Even today, the café remains a hub for conversation, storytelling, and the preservation of Majevica’s cultural heritage.
As it approaches its 60th anniversary, “Lipe” stands as a testament to resilience, family, and the enduring magic of a place where history, literature, and friendship come together. From the visits of film legends to literary evenings and lively village gatherings, this café has woven itself into the heart of Majevica—and its story is far from finished.
