A screening of the short documentary film After the Party will take place at the City Hall of Banski Dvor in Banja Luka on January 29, 2026, starting at 8:00 PM. The film is directed by Stefan Tomić and produced by Didaskalije, in co-production with the Official Gazette of the Republic of Srpska.
Free
tickets are available at the Banski Dvor box office on working days (excluding
weekends) from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
With a
running time of 29 minutes, the film follows writer Stevo Grabovac through ten
quiet yet tense days leading up to the announcement of the winner of one of the
most prestigious literary awards in the region—an award for which he has been
nominated for the second time. While anticipation builds around him, Grabovac
remains true to his inner rhythm: reserved, unassuming, and deeply devoted to
writing.
The film will be screened on a symbolic date—exactly two years since Stevo Grabovac was awarded the NIN Literary Prize.
After the Party is a portrait of a man who
does not belong to the world of spectacle, even though it has suddenly
recognized him. It is a film about solitude, silence, work without applause,
and an inner need for creation that seeks meaning rather than public
validation.
Director
Stefan Tomić identifies a universal human dilemma in this story: the constant
search for what we love, even when we know that complete fulfillment may never
be fully attained. It is within this ongoing movement, doubt, and the need for
self-improvement that the space for sincere art is created.
Producer
Nikola Đaković emphasizes that the film emerged from a sense of responsibility
to document the story of a writer outside formal literary circles and media
exposure, who nevertheless reaches the very top. Grabovac, who does not use
social media and carefully protects his personal microcosm, remains focused on
what he does best—writing, in silence.
So
far, the film has been screened at three international festivals and has
already won the Special Jury Award at the 14th Balkan Nordic Film Festival
DOC:SHORT 2025 in Stockholm. Additional festival screenings are expected
throughout 2026.
