Banja Luka International Airport could soon see a major boost in air traffic, as negotiations between Wizz Air and Airports of Republika Srpska about opening a new base in Banja Luka have entered the final stages, according to aviation portal Zamaaero.
This development marks significant progress from earlier discussions, which had remained at a preliminary level. Negotiations with Wizz Air have been ongoing for a considerable time, dating back to the tenure of former airport director Milan Račić. Talks were also led by Natalija Trivić, another former director of Banja Luka Airport.
Reports indicate that Wizz Air initially proposed shifting its flights from Tuzla to Banja Luka as early as the start of this winter’s flight schedule.
The move was suggested due to frequent fog disruptions at Tuzla Airport. Notably, Wizz Air previously operated bases in Tuzla and Sarajevo but has since closed both.
If the deal goes through, the establishment of a Wizz Air base in Banja Luka would significantly expand the airport’s network, adding more routes and increasing flight frequency, ultimately enhancing its regional and international connectivity.
