German retail giant Lidl is rapidly preparing its entry into the Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) market. While the first facilities are already under construction, the list of cities where stores are planned continues to grow.
According to a location map published by the portal BiznisInfo.ba, Lidl is already present or actively preparing projects in almost all parts of BiH — from Banja Luka to Trebinje — with sites in different stages of development.
Where Will Lidl Open Stores?
Here is the complete list of locations where projects are underway or in preparation:
Banja Luka region:
Banja Luka, Laktaši, Prnjavor, Gradiška
Semberija and Majevica:
Bijeljina, Zvornik, Brčko
Doboj region:
Doboj, Modriča
Sarajevo-Romanija region:
East Sarajevo, Sarajevo
Central Bosnia:
Zenica, Travnik, Kakanj, Kiseljak, Tešanj, Živinice, Gračanica
Krajina:
Bihać
Herzegovina:
Mostar, Trebinje, Čapljina, Čitluk
Western Bosnia:
Livno
The portal also reports unofficially that Široki Brijeg and Sanski Most are being considered, although these locations are still awaiting official confirmation.
Tuzla and Krajina Waiting for Land
Although Tuzla is one of the largest cities, it still does not have an active Lidl construction site. The reason is not a lack of interest, but difficulties in finding suitable land. A similar situation exists in Krajina, where expansion to Cazin and Sanski Most is expected after Bihać once property and legal issues are resolved.
Western Herzegovina, despite strong purchasing power, is currently less covered, but it is almost certain Lidl will soon look for additional locations in that part of the country.
When Will the First Stores Open?
A key signal for customers will be job advertisements. Based on Lidl’s previous practice in the region, the timeline looks like this:
Spring 2026: First job openings for store employees expected.
Training period: About six months of preparation and training.
Late 2026 / Early 2027: Realistic timeframe for the grand opening of the first Lidl stores in BiH.
Lidl’s strategy is to open a larger number of stores at the same time in order to ensure logistical efficiency and immediately capture a significant share of the market.
