As experts explain, what we put into our bodies significantly impacts the quality of our skin as we age. Supporting skin health and aiding in wrinkle reduction, here are three notable foods.
Almonds
For a satisfying snack that works on reducing wrinkles, experts recommend almonds.
A study conducted on a group of postmenopausal women examined the consumption of almonds on various skin parameters. The study results suggest that daily almond consumption may reduce the severity of wrinkles and facial pigmentation intensity, stated Dr. Jessica Malo, an integrative dermatology specialist.
The group consuming almonds daily for 16 weeks reduced wrinkle appearance by 16%, compared to the other group. They also reported a reduction of dark spots by around 20%.
Salmon
Salmon is another food experts highlight for skin care as it is rich in proteins, fatty acids, and antioxidants.
Omega-3 fatty acids have been proven to increase skin hydration, reduce UV radiation-induced skin stress, diminish photoaging, and provide photoprotection, stated Dr. Alehandra Carrasco, a functional medicine expert.
Mango
For those with a sweet tooth, mango is a fantastic fruit to snack on—just be mindful of portion size.
In one study, researchers observed the effects of consuming half a cup of mango or a cup and a half of mango, four times a week for 16 weeks. They found that serving half a cup led to a reduction in wrinkle depth, which may be linked to specific carotenoid and flavonoid content in mango.
These findings underscore the importance of a balanced diet rich in these foods for promoting skin health and combating the signs of aging.
