Serbian film, television, and theater actor Nebojša Glogovac (1969-2018) passed away on this day, February 9, 2018.
He was a member of the Children's Drama Group of RTS and began his acting career at the Youth Atelier in Pančevo.
In 1996, he received a scholarship from the Yugoslav Drama Theatre and a role in the play The Great Heist, directed by Dejan Mijač, on the stage of Atelje 212.
As a child, Glogovac appeared in the TV series Stories from Nepričava, and his first film role came in 1993 in the short film Requiem for a Dream, followed by the drama Peter Rabbit's Paradise.
After drawing attention to his talent, he landed a role in the film Premeditated Murder.
Glogovac played leading roles in films such as Powder Keg, Sky Hook, When I Grow Up, I'll Be a Kangaroo, The Trap, Huddersfield, A Woman with a Broken Nose, I Defended Young Bosnia, Circles, Ravna Gora, and The Constitution of the Republic of Croatia.
He was a multiple award-winning actor in both theater and film, with notable accolades including the Sterija Award, Tsar Constantine in Niš, and the Golden Arena in Pula for Best Male Role.
He passed away after a brief and severe illness at the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia in Belgrade on February 9, 2018.
Nebojša Glogovac's words are still remembered and often quoted today:
- Everything is easily accessible today, open, yet people still allow themselves to be ridden, Glogovac said in one of his last interviews.
- Life is like a pencil—every day, it gets shorter. Try to draw something beautiful while you still can.
- Since I am not perfect, I don’t expect a perfect woman—nor does one exist. A good partner is someone who complements your strengths and weaknesses, when you pull each other up like mountain climbers, making a whole from two imperfect beings, as we all are. Each of us is somewhat flawed strong in some places, weak in others—and accepting each other with all virtues and flaws might be the closest thing to ideal.
- To be, that is, to think with your own mind, or not to be, that is, to let others think for you and accept it unconditionally. The system always manipulates individuals, exerts pressure. It was the same in Shakespeare’s time, before and after him. It was once well-camouflaged; today, it is completely exposed, yet it still works—almost flawlessly. Incredible!
- To act or not to act; to rebel, to fight for your rights, to expose deceptions, to refuse to comply with the system—or the opposite, not to be.
- In the chase for money to pay off loans, we forget about our children, our souls, our love. I believe this is disastrous because human progress is not represented by faster cars or the tons of information we are bombarded with.
- I am 100% Herzegovinian—my mother is from Nevesinje, from the Samardžić family, my grandmother from the Vasiljević family, and the Glogovac family comes from Dramiševo near Nevesinje. I was born in Trebinje, lived there for six years, and my heritage is spotless. If you don't have that in you, you have nowhere to return to. As we get older, we feel a greater need for that. From 20 to 40, you establish yourself as a person—that’s a time of acquiring, forming a family, creating life. After that, the need for roots emerges, and whenever I can, I return to Herzegovina with joy.
