Trees have been planted in the “Mladen Stojanović” Park and the “12 Babies Alley” has been created as a reminder of the terrible tragedy committed 34 years ago, in which 12 newborn babies from Banjaluka lost their lives due to a lack of oxygen.

“One tree will be dedicated to each of our tragically deceased babies. This is a powerful form of remembrance culture, because all children walking through the park in 20 or 30 years will have a strong reminder of each of our babies,” Denis Bojić, director of the Memorial Center of Republika Srpska, told reporters earlier.
Wreaths and flowers were laid today at the “Life” memorial in the center of Banjaluka to mark 34 years since the deaths of the 12 Banjaluka babies at the then Clinical Center, who died due to the refusal of world powers to allow the transport of oxygen.
By a decision of the UN Security Council in May and June 1992, international flights were banned, including those carrying oxygen cylinders from Belgrade to Banjaluka. As a result, 12 newborn babies who were in incubators died due to the lack of oxygen.
