As part of the traditional event “Derventa in the Heart – A Heart in Derventa,” the International Multireligious and Intercultural Centre IMIC “Zajedno” from Derventa is marking a major milestone – 25 years of successful work and activity.
To
celebrate the anniversary, a rich cultural and artistic programme has been
prepared for the end of July and beginning of August, featuring a documentary
film screening, a photography exhibition, an awards ceremony and the promotion
of a sports biography.
The
anniversary programme will begin on July 27 at 8 p.m., when the documentary
film “Untold Stories,” directed by Brankica Drašković from Novi Sad, will be
screened at the “Branko Radičević” National Library.
The
52-minute documentary tells moving stories about people who risked their own
lives to help fellow citizens of different ethnic backgrounds during the wars
in the former Yugoslavia. The film aims to remind audiences of the courage of
individuals who, during some of the most difficult times, reached out to people
who were often perceived as belonging to the “enemy side.”
A few days later, on July 31 at 7 p.m., the Derventa Cultural Centre will host the opening of a photography exhibition entitled “Even Friends – Golden Olympians – More Precious Than Gold.”
Created
by Fadil Pelesić, the exhibition is dedicated to the brightest moments and
greatest achievements of handball in Derventa, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the
former Yugoslavia.
The
central part of the anniversary programme is scheduled for Saturday, August 1.
The programme at the Cultural Centre begins at 10 a.m. with the event “Derventa
Heart 2026,” which will feature a cultural and artistic programme and the
traditional presentation of awards to deserving individuals and organisations.
Following
the awards ceremony, at 11 a.m., the same venue will host the promotion of the
book “Abas Arslanagić – With Technique and Speed, He Was Far Ahead of His
Time,” written by Milica and Fadil Pelesić.
The
book is dedicated to the legendary handball goalkeeper, Olympic champion and
one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of the sport.
The
organisers from IMIC “Zajedno” are inviting citizens and visitors to join the
celebrations and help mark this important anniversary, while enjoying the
diverse cultural, artistic and sports-related programme prepared for the
occasion.
