More than 500 hikers from 21 mountaineering clubs across Republika Srpska, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, and other regions took part in the traditional “Kočić Trails” hiking event on Manjača Mountain.
The event gathered nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages, from a six-month-old baby boy to 91-year-old participant Milomir Vitomir, originally from Sokolac and currently living in Banja Luka.
Vitomir, who joined the hike recreationally,
said he is not a member of any mountaineering association but participates in
hiking activities whenever he has the opportunity.
“For longevity and good health, people need as
much physical activity as possible,” Vitomir said.
The event was organized by the “Manjača”
Sports and Mountaineering Association from Banja Luka. Association president
Zlatko Sladojević told Srna news agency that this year’s main route followed a
15-kilometer circular trail leading to the Tisovac peak, located at an altitude
of 1,220 meters.
In addition to the main route, organizers also prepared a 12-kilometer trail intended for recreational walkers and nature enthusiasts.
Mihajlo Lazendić, president of the “Vidik”
Mountaineering and Environmental Society from Mrkonjić Grad, said their members
have been regularly visiting Manjača over the past five years to support hiking
activities in the area. This year, 20 members of the club joined the event.
“Manjača is a very gentle mountain for hiking.
It is suitable for beginners as well as hikers of all generations and ages,”
Lazendić said.
Ranko Duvnjak, a member of the “Patria”
Mountaineering and Sports Society from Gradiška, said that 35 members of their
association participated in the action.
