For the Marijanović family from Futog, near Novi Sad, Foča was the base for their ten-day vacation last summer, and they have no regrets!
What motivated you to visit Foča and choose our city as the
base for your family vacation?
Choosing Foča as the place to be our vacation base was due
to the proximity of tourist destinations planned for visiting (Mostar,
Sarajevo, Trebinje, Žabljak, etc.) as well as the mountain peaks of Republika
Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro, but also the economic aspect
and affordable accommodation prices for an average family like ours.
How did your vacation go? What did you visit? Briefly
describe where you traveled here in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Montenegro.
The vacation went according to plan, the weather served us
well, so we had the opportunity to visit most of the places we planned. We
reached the highest peak of Republika Srpska, Maglić, or Prijevor, then to
Žabljak in Durmitor, Montenegro, and the mountain pass Sedlo, Piva lakes,
Klinje, Bileća lake, Bjelašnica mountain and the highest village in Bosnia and
Herzegovina, Lukomir, monasteries Žitomislić, Tvrdoš and the monastery in the
village of Mrkonjići, cities Trebinje, Mostar, Sarajevo, Nevesinje, Gacko,
historical monuments Sutjeska in Tjentište, as well as natural phenomena such
as the confluence of the Buna River into the Neretva or the Skakavac waterfall
in the Perucica rainforest.
What was your first impression of Foča when you arrived?
What impressed you the most at first sight?
Since we are nature lovers and Foča lies on two rivers
nestled between mountain ranges, we fell in love with Foča at first sight. A
small town that has everything needed for a stay and is also close, within easy
reach.
How would you describe your stay in Foča in three words?
Beautiful nature, good location, and affordable
accommodation and food prices.
Can you share some of your favorite activities during your
stay in Foča?
Walking along the Ćehotina river, visiting the city pool,
touring the Foča Briones, and visiting the Church of St. Sava.
Which location or attraction in Foča left the most
impression on you and why?
The most impressive thing for us was the murmur of the
Ćehotina river, the city of Foča itself, which is peaceful and quiet, making it
ideal for relaxation, and the trip to Prijevor and the view of the mountain
peaks of Zelengora, Maglić, Volujak, and the snow we saw in the middle of
summer left us breathless in the true sense of the word.
Did you have the opportunity to try any local dishes or
specialties? If so, which one was your favorite?
As for food, we had the opportunity to try lamb and pork
roasts, pizza at Trezor pizzeria. The biggest excitement was the young veal we
bought at a local butcher and prepared ourselves, which we cannot buy here in
Novi Sad.
How did you experience the local population? Did you have
any interesting interactions with people from Foča?
The population of Foča is pleasant, the people are
well-intentioned, ready to help if you find yourself in trouble. We had a
mishap with the car and received selfless help from Siniša Višnjić, the owner
of the accommodation we rented, as well as Mladen Mandić from the Tourist
Organization of the Municipality of Foča.
Did you have time to explore the surroundings of Foča? If
so, what were your favorite destinations outside the city?
Since we mainly focused on visiting more distant
destinations, we did not explore the immediate surroundings of Foča much. We
managed to visit the sand pyramids near the city, see the confluence of the
Tara and Piva rivers forming the Drina, and spend beautiful moments in
Tjentište near the city of Foča.
What are your impressions of accommodation in Foča? Would
you recommend any accommodation to other visitors?
As for accommodation, we rented a two-bedroom apartment for
a day in a residential building. The price-service ratio is quite decent, and
affordable accommodation can be found.
Finally, would you return to Foča and why?
The whole family agrees that we had a great time during our
stay in Foča and that we would gladly return again.
