Around 190 railway enthusiasts from the Czech Republic arrived in Banja Luka aboard a special tourist train as part of an international multi-day railway journey running from July 13 to 18, along the route Prague – Sarajevo – Mostar.
The visitors were hosted by "Railways of Republika Srpska" (Željeznice Republike Srpske) as part of a planned and coordinated visit. During their stay in Banja Luka, they toured the local railway station and the technical train depot, gaining insight into the functioning of the railway transport system in Republika Srpska.
The visit was organized at the request of Czech railway fans and facilitated in cooperation with the travel agency "Gepard Expres."
"During the tour of the station and maintenance depot in Banja Luka, the visitors had the opportunity to learn more about the operational system of railway transport in Republika Srpska," stated the Railways of Republika Srpska, as reported by Nezavisne novine.
As part of their journey through Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the international tourist train from the Czech Republic also stopped in Doboj. For the continuation of the route, a locomotive from the Railways of Republika Srpska was provided to haul the train.
The Czech Republic is known for having one of the densest railway networks in the world, and train travel remains a popular way to explore new destinations — not only among young travelers but also among older generations of train lovers.
