ANIMAL KINGDOM IN SUTJESKA

The mountain massifs of Bioča, Vučevo, Maglić, Volujak, Lebršnik and Zelengore overwhelms the oldest National Park in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

ANIMAL KINGDOM IN SUTJESKA

NP Sutjeska is surrounded by the rivers Piva, Drina and Neretva. On Zelengora there are eight glacier lakes, known as "mountain eyes", and there are imposing canyons of Sutjeska, Hrčavka, Jabučnica, clear mountain rivers rich in trout.

In the middle of the Park there is also a strict natural reservation Perućica (1,434 ha), the most well-preserved and the largest rainforest in Europe, in which since the founding of the National Park, it is strictly forbidden any intervention and interference of people.

Wild boars, deers, bears, squirrels, wolves, foxes, martens, wild cats, otters and other animals wander through forest or pastures, clefts or rocky areas.

The highest peak of Bosnia and Herzegovina Maglić (2,386 m.n.v.) is located in the area of the Park. It is precisely because of the beauty of its value and the fact that this is an intact nature, this national park in 2000 came to the 2nd category of the IUCN (UN Division for the Protection of Nature and Natural Heritage).

There are numerous monuments of older and newer history in the park, and the biggest historical event in this area was the Battle of Sutjeska.
