The second phase of the construction of the Spiritual Center in Mrkonjići, near Trebinje, the birthplace of Saint Vasilije Ostroški and Tvrdoški, is progressing as planned. This project is one of the key initiatives in the city of Trebinje, funded by the governments of Serbia, Republika Srpska, and the city itself.
Trebinje Mayor Mirko Ćurić and Head of the Department for Capital Investments Siniša Vučurević visited the construction site today. Representatives from the construction company "Porobić" from Trebinje briefed them on the progress of the work.
The second phase of the project includes the construction of a monastery residence with an observation tower, an open-air amphitheater, a museum section with a treasury, and related infrastructure facilities, as announced by the Trebinje City Administration.
"We are satisfied with the progress of the works. We are building new structures – the museum section, the observation tower, and the open-air amphitheater, which will visually and thematically complement this spiritual complex, bringing joy to the citizens of Trebinje, the residents of Mrkonjići, as well as all Orthodox believers and other visitors," said Ćurić.
According to current estimates, the open-air amphitheater will be completed by May 12, when the village of Mrkonjići celebrates the feast of Saint Vasilije Ostroški and Tvrdoški.
"In addition to the open-air amphitheater at Crkvina, within the Hercegovačka Gračanica monastery complex, we will have another amphitheater here, thus creating a new space for various cultural events and visits," emphasized the mayor.
The value of the works in the second phase is approximately 1.7 million KM. Upon completion, the next steps will include the construction of the parish house, parking facilities, and a pilgrimage trail through the village.
Earlier, the construction of the church, a space for monastic life, and accompanying facilities were completed.
