Trebinje has emerged as one of the most visited destinations in the region this spring. Over the May Day holiday, the picturesque Herzegovinian town was teeming with tourists who took advantage of the sunny weather, rich offerings, and natural beauty that make this southernmost city of Republika Srpska truly stand out.
Accommodation capacities have been completely booked, and the city's most frequented spots are bustling with life. Particularly lively are the shaded promenades under centuries-old plane trees, scenic picnic areas along the Trebišnjica River, and local viewpoints, where visitors celebrate the holiday with leisurely walks, photo sessions, and tastings of authentic Herzegovinian cuisine.
Among the many guests was the Stanković family from Belgrade, visiting Trebinje for the first time.
“Our friends recommended we come, and we’re glad we did. The city is beautiful and peaceful, the people are welcoming, and the food is excellent. Despite the crowds, everything runs smoothly. We’ll definitely return in the summer,” said Aleksandra, speaking to Trebinje Danas.
A group of young travelers from Novi Sad also chose to spend the holiday in Herzegovina.
“Everything is close here—both the sea and the mountains—and Trebinje is truly unique. It has a soul. We’ve visited the Old Town and Gračanica, and now we’re heading for a riverside picnic. It’s a perfect day,” Marko told us.
Slovenian tourists, who discovered Trebinje by chance during a trip to Dubrovnik, were equally enthusiastic.
“We came for a day trip from Dubrovnik but decided to stay at least two more days. The city feels authentic, prices are reasonable, and people are warm and friendly. We’ll recommend it to everyone,” one of them shared.
The holiday spirit can be felt throughout the city, as municipal services and local hospitality workers work hard to ensure every guest leaves with fond memories of this gem of southern Republika Srpska.
