AHORINA SEEKING 800 WORKERS FOR UPCOMING WINTER SEASON

The popular winter destination of Jahorina is set to open 800 new seasonal jobs ahead of the upcoming winter season, including 600 positions in hospitality and 200 ski instructor roles, announced Denis Šulić, Minister of Trade and Tourism of the Republic of Srpska.

Speaking at the opening of the Employment Fair held on Jahorina, Minister Šulić emphasized that new legal measures introduced by the Government of Republika Srpska aim to reduce undeclared seasonal work and strengthen labor rights in the tourism sector.

“The average monthly salary of 1,500 KM shows that government investments in the development and expansion of the Olympic Center Jahorina are paying off,” Šulić told reporters.

He noted that the growing number of employers opening new business facilities is increasing the demand for skilled labor. Šulić also stressed that all workers will be officially registered and that their social contributions will be fully paid.

“I’m pleased that through our joint efforts with the Ministry of Labor and Veterans’ Affairs, we’ve made it easier to carry out seasonal work, not just for ski instructors during the winter, but also for rafting guides during the summer season in Foča and along the Vrbas River. With new legislation, we will reduce the grey economy in this sector,” Šulić added.

According to the minister, one of the key goals is to retain seasonal workers year-round by connecting summer and winter tourist centers.

“We must better integrate Jahorina and Ravna Planina with places like Foča, which is known for rafting tourism, as well as with Trebinje and Banja Luka, which attract a large number of tourists and seasonal workers during the summer months. That is the only way to retain our workforce in the Republic of Srpska,” Šulić concluded.

The Employment Fair on Jahorina gathered 37 employers from various sectors, primarily tourism and hospitality, all of whom expressed the need to hire more than 550 workers for the upcoming winter season.
