The iconic Mehmed Pasha Kukavica Clock Tower in Foča, along with two bridges over the Ćehotina River, are now illuminated in their full beauty following the installation of modern LED lighting. The project was implemented as part of a cross-border cooperation program between Foča and the municipality of Plužine in Montenegro.
In
addition to the lighting of the Clock Tower and the two bridges, a large LED
billboard has been installed at King Peter Square. The total value of the
completed works amounts to approximately 200,000 KM.
The
Clock Tower is an endowment of Vizier Mehmed Pasha Kukavica dating back to the
18th century and is located in Prijeka Čaršija, the old town area of Foča,
which is protected as a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the
Republic of Srpska. The two concrete bridges over the Ćehotina River were built
after World War II on sites where wooden bridges had stood for centuries.
Foča Municipality Mayor Milan Vukadinović attended the ceremonial launch of the new lighting system and emphasized that the local community is striving to obtain city status, expressing confidence that this goal will be achieved next year.
“We
must ensure that every part of the municipality, especially the central area,
looks much more attractive. The ‘Tara Two’ project has enabled us to illuminate
the Clock Tower and two bridges over the Ćehotina River, as well as install an
LED billboard in the center of Foča where we will promote our tourist
potential,” Vukadinović stated.
He
added that these improvements significantly enhance the tourist offer of Foča’s
town center.
The
author of the lighting project, Belgrade-based architect Milan Kulić,
highlighted that Foča is a beautiful municipality situated on two rivers,
noting that the Clock Tower, with its great cultural and historical
significance, was a particular source of inspiration for him.
