The traditional “Glamoč Potato Days” festival once again brought together numerous farmers, exhibitors, and visitors, highlighting the importance of one of the region’s most recognizable agricultural products.

Known for their exceptional quality and distinctive taste, Glamoč potatoes continue to attract customers across the region, thanks to their protected geographical origin and growing reputation.

Although this year’s harvest was average, local producers are satisfied with sales and market prices.

Protected Geographical Origin Boosts Sales

Siniša Šolak, President of the Glamoč Potato Association, emphasized that protected geographical origin, verified quality, and recognizable branding have contributed to steady market demand.

“Despite this year’s average harvest, sales are going well and prices remain satisfactory, largely thanks to the potato’s protected geographical origin, verified quality, and distinctive visual identity,” Šolak told Glas Srpske.

However, one of the main challenges is the lack of coordination among producers when it comes to supplying larger buyers who require consistent deliveries of significant quantities.

To meet modern market demands, producers are planning to improve production methods, consolidate agricultural plots, and introduce more advanced potato sorting processes.

Special attention will be given to sorting potatoes by size and offering smaller, more convenient packaging, which is increasingly popular among consumers.

How to Recognize Authentic Glamoč Potatoes

The growing popularity of Glamoč potatoes has also brought challenges, particularly the increasing number of products being sold under the Glamoč name despite not originating from the area or meeting verified quality standards.

The Glamoč Potato Association therefore urges consumers to be cautious and check product labels before purchasing.

“The market is flooded with potatoes labeled as ‘Glamoč potatoes’ whose quality cannot be verified. We once again encourage customers to check what they are buying, which they can easily do by scanning the label on the packaging,” Šolak warned.

The “Glamoč Potato Days” festival is more than an opportunity to promote and sell local products. It also plays an important role in preserving the agricultural traditions for which Glamoč has long been known.

By protecting authenticity, improving cooperation among producers, and modernizing production, Glamoč potatoes have the potential to further strengthen their position in domestic and regional markets.
