As part of the project “Gat – Nature and History for the Future,” implemented through the ReLOaD3 programme, walking trails have been improved, signposts installed and new facilities developed to make the area more accessible.

To celebrate the completion of the project, the Gat Association organized an outdoor gathering attended by around 150 participants.

Historic Trails and New Viewpoints

According to Saša Nikolić, president of the Gat Association, the six-month project focused on improving visitor infrastructure while preserving the area's natural environment.

Walking trails following former military routes have been restored, information signs installed and video surveillance introduced to protect the site. The planting of 400 black pine trees is also planned.

Through the Via Dinarica project, a shelter and a viewpoint on nearby Vršac Hill have also been provided.

Protecting Wildlife and Nature

The Vranjača Hunting and Fishing Association from Gacko contributed a wildlife feeding station, 250 kilograms of corn and mineral salt for animals.

Since hunting is prohibited in this protected area, these initiatives play an important role in wildlife conservation.

A New Opportunity for Tourism

Gacko Mayor Vukota Govedarica emphasized Gat's potential to become an attractive tourist destination by combining its natural landscapes with its cultural and historical heritage.

Further improvements and tourism development are planned in cooperation with the Gat Association.

With its restored trails, scenic viewpoints and peaceful surroundings, Gat is becoming a promising destination for outdoor activities, recreation and nature-based tourism in eastern Herzegovina.
