A new firefighting water reservoir is being built in Sutjeska National Park, with completion scheduled for the end of October.
The reservoir is being constructed in the Prijevor area,
with funding provided by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
through a project of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of
Bosnia and Herzegovina's Council of Ministers.
According to Sutjeska National Park, construction began this
summer and the reservoir will have a capacity of 80 cubic metres of water.
IMPROVING FIRE PROTECTION AND PRESERVING NATURAL RESOURCES
Aleksandar Golijanin, acting director of Sutjeska National
Park, told the Srna news agency that the new reservoir will significantly
improve fire protection and help safeguard the area's valuable natural
resources.
“Having a reservoir like this is important for potential
firefighting operations. It will also serve other purposes, as water sources in
this area have limited capacity during the summer months,” Golijanin said.
The facility is expected to provide an additional source of
water in an area where access to sufficient supplies can be particularly
important during dry periods and when wildfires threaten the natural
environment.
KM 332,000 ALLOCATED FOR THE PROJECT
The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, in
cooperation with UNDP, previously announced that KM 300,000 had been allocated
for the project, with an additional KM 32,000 provided for the preparation of
project documentation.
The investment is aimed at strengthening fire prevention and
response capabilities in Sutjeska National Park, one of Bosnia and
Herzegovina's most valuable natural areas.
