When it comes to fruit production, Bosnia and Herzegovina primarily relies on plums, which account for approximately 53% of the country’s total fruit output.
Apple production is also significant, covering about 35% of the total share, according to an analysis by InfoBijeljina.
In third place is pear production (less than 10%), although a variety of other fruit species, such as cherries, sour cherries, peaches, and southern fruits, are also grown.
According to the 2023 Agricultural Production Report in BiH, the total fruit production in Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2023 amounted to more than 307,800 tons, with about 163,800 tons of that being plums.
Last year, fruit growers in BiH also produced around 106,700 tons of apples and over 23,200 tons of pears. Additionally, smaller quantities of peaches, cherries, sour cherries, and other fruits were produced.
In Republika Srpska, nearly 110,000 tons of plums were produced last year, while in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, approximately 42,000 tons of plums were harvested.
