Beekeepers in Srpska are incredibly busy as the honey harvest is in full swing. In the apiary with 70 hives, located in Jaruška njiva in Liplje, on Mount Borja, they are harvesting hajdučki honey.
“Honey
is harvested by removing the frames from the hives, specifically those frames
that are mostly capped with wax lids, indicating that the honey is ripe,”
explains Svetislav Nikolić, a beekeeper from Teslić.
The
Nikolić family has been continuously harvesting honey since May 1st. They
report extracting up to 120 kilograms of honey daily.
Once the honey is extracted, the frame with the honeycomb is completely empty. It will be returned to the hive, and the bees will go back to work filling it with honey.
It
appears that beekeepers are finally looking at a successful year. While they
have not yet made a precise assessment of the hives, they are confident that
the yield is more than satisfactory.
“So
far, I’ve been able to harvest about 13 frames per extraction. This is now the
third time I’ve harvested the same hives that I first harvested on May 1st,”
adds Nikolić, as reported by ATV.
Svetislav
is a retired teacher who has been beekeeping since 1983. He recalls 2015 as one
of the most successful years in beekeeping. It is still too early for
predictions, but he hopes that this year could be just as successful.
