Its origins trace back to the mid-20th century when the lush meadows and verdant expanses served primarily as grazing grounds for livestock from surrounding villages. It was common for shepherds to establish temporary settlements, known as katuns, in these areas during the summer months, seeking shelter from the winds while tending to their flocks.
The allure of Dvorišta extended beyond its pastoral landscapes; it became a favored destination for nearby residents, who frequented the area for outings, picnics, and leisurely strolls.
The 1970s marked the beginning of residential development in Dvorišta, with the construction of the first houses and cottages. Despite the manual labor and occasional sluggish progress, essential amenities such as electricity and water supply were swiftly established through communal efforts, benefiting over a hundred and fifty households.
Alongside its natural beauty, Dvorišta boasted pristine springs providing potable water for both consumption and construction purposes.
Following the Olympic Games, Dvorišta garnered attention far beyond Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Rusovo complex, featuring several luxurious villas built to the highest standards, now stands as a testament to the area's upscale accommodation offerings. Plans for future expansion aim to enhance capacity while preserving the region's natural splendor in accordance with environmental regulations.
Reflecting on the area's history, one cannot overlook the meticulous care given to its forests, water sources, and trails by past inhabitants.
Timber exploitation was kept in check, every drop of water treasured as gold, and thorough oversight maintained over transportation routes, ensuring responsible usage.
Perched at an elevation of 1350 meters and surrounded by dense coniferous forests found only in this region, Dvorišta rightfully earned the moniker of an alpine resort.
Over time, it became synonymous with Nordic skiing in the region, playing a pivotal role in hosting national and international competitions, despite the initial challenges of trail creation and snow preparation.
Today, Dvorišta continues to evolve at a rapid pace, attracting visitors and nature enthusiasts year-round. Its proximity to modern ski slopes on Jahorina, coupled with well-maintained trails for hiking, running, cycling, and quad biking, ensures its appeal across all seasons.
