The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina is withdrawing from circulation the convertible mark banknotes of denominations 10, 20, 50, and 100 KM issued between 1998 and 2009.
These banknotes can still be used for payments in
transactions until December 31 of this year.
From January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, citizens will be
able to exchange these banknotes at all commercial banks free of charge.
"After that, the Central Bank will take over the role
of exchanging these banknotes for a period of 10 years. Specifically, until
December 31, 2035, you can exchange these banknotes at the Central Bank,
although they will no longer be legal tender," stated Slobodanka Drašković
from the Department for Planning and Analysis in the Treasury Division.
Banknotes of 10, 20, 50, and 100 KM that will remain in circulation feature the vertical Motion micro-optical security thread.
"The convertible mark banknotes being withdrawn from
circulation do not have the Motion security thread, unlike the newer banknotes
issued from 2012 to the latest series in 2024. This is a visual difference that
can be easily and quickly identified," Drašković explained.
The withdrawal of these banknotes will improve the quality
of the banknotes in circulation, making it easier to verify authenticity for
the general public, individuals handling cash manually, and devices used for
receiving and processing banknotes, reports BHRT.
