The words of the renowned Serbian poet, writer, and journalist Duško Radović remain timeless life lessons.
Among his many unforgettable messages is his iconic New Year’s greeting, a masterpiece that is quoted and shared year after year. It reads:
"Today is the first day, a beginning. I wish for you that the things that hurt you no longer hurt, and that you are loved by those who didn’t love you.
I wish for your children to be better than you, so that you take more pride in them than they do in you.
I wish for your legs to serve you well, that you spend most of the year standing on them, that you have more work than time.
I wish for you to be more needed by others than they are by you. To want and be able to do more than you need, and to share everything extra with those who cannot do what you can. Don’t take much more than you give.
Think a little about those who will have to lose so that you can gain.
I wish for you to get a home if you don’t have one, or to know how to cherish and find joy in it if you already do.
I wish for what you have to never feel smaller than what you don’t have.
And finally, I wish for this year to be luckier with you than the last one was!"
Radović's words continue to inspire, offering wisdom, warmth, and hope at the turn of every year.
