THERE WILL BE GOOD WINE - TREBINJE GRAPES ARE OF EXCELLENT QUALITY THIS YEAR

This year’s grape harvest in Trebinje is very good, with both yields and quality surpassing last year’s results, thanks to favorable weather conditions during the growing and ripening season.

THERE WILL BE GOOD WINE - TREBINJE GRAPES ARE OF EXCELLENT QUALITY THIS YEAR

Ranko Petijević, owner of Petijević Winery, said that yields are around three kilograms per vine, which he considers ideal for producing high-quality grapes.

“I am satisfied with this year’s yield. Winegrowers who had access to irrigation achieved good results, and the overall yield is slightly higher than last year,” Petijević said.

EXCELLENT GRAPE QUALITY

According to Petijević, the quality of the grapes is excellent. Dry weather and the absence of rainfall during the ripening period helped protect the vineyards from disease and created favorable conditions for healthy grapes.

This year’s harvest began around 15 days earlier than usual. Early Chardonnay varieties were harvested from around August 25, while the harvest of Žilavka began around September 5.

Red varieties followed, including Merlot, Vranac and Cabernet, which ripen somewhat later than white grapes.

HARVEST NEARING COMPLETIO

The grape harvest in the Trebinje area is now gradually coming to an end, with only some of the later red varieties still remaining in the vineyards.

With excellent grape quality and a better yield than last year, Trebinje’s winegrowers have plenty of reason for optimism as they turn this year’s harvest into new wines.
