Željko Sekulić, a member of the Adrenalin Mountaineering Club from Teslić, has achieved an extraordinary mountaineering success by reaching the summit of Himlung Himal, one of the challenging peaks of the Nepalese Himalayas, standing at 7,126 metres above sea level. His achievement came after a demanding international expedition marked by extreme cold, powerful winds, and harsh high-altitude conditions.
The expedition was organized by the Belgrade-based mountaineering and expedition agency Est Adventure and lasted from October 7 to November 2, 2026.
Himlung Himal is located in the Nepalese Himalayas, near the border with Tibet. Known for its freezing temperatures, strong winds, and challenging snow-covered and icy terrain, the mountain presents a serious test even for experienced climbers.
A CHALLENGING JOURNEY THROUGH SNOW, ICE, AND EXTREME COLD
Climbing above 7,000 metres requires much more than physical fitness. At such altitudes, significantly reduced oxygen availability makes every step more demanding, requiring exceptional endurance, concentration, and mental strength.
Before the final ascent, expedition members underwent an extensive acclimatization process, making several rotations between Base Camp and the higher camps, C1, C2, and C3, before returning to lower altitudes.
Due to heavy snowfall before the expedition, Base Camp was established at a lower altitude than in previous years.
According to the Adrenalin Mountaineering Club, the expedition was also overshadowed by a tragic avalanche that reportedly claimed the lives of 16 Nepalese mountaineers approximately one month earlier, during preparations to establish Base Camp.
REACHING THE SUMMIT AFTER AN ALL-NIGHT CLIMB
The final ascent began on October 25 at 9 p.m. local time.
After nearly 13 hours of climbing through snow, ice, and extremely demanding mountain terrain, the climbers reached the summit at approximately 10 a.m. the following morning.
Throughout the ascent, they faced temperatures well below minus 30 degrees Celsius and exceptionally strong winds.
Under such conditions, every step required tremendous physical effort, determination, and mental resilience.
The reward for weeks of preparation, sacrifice, and exhausting climbing was the unforgettable moment of standing at 7,126 metres above sea level, surrounded by breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountain ranges.
A PROUD MOMENT FOR TESLIĆ AND THE ADRENALIN MOUNTAINEERING CLUB
Željko Sekulić's achievement has brought great pride to the members of the Adrenalin Mountaineering Club, who see his success as an inspiration to nature lovers, adventurers, and fellow mountaineers.
"His achievement is a source of pride for our club and the town of Teslić, as well as an inspiration to everyone who loves nature, mountains, and adventure," the club stated.
Reaching the summit of a Himalayan peak above 7,000 metres is a remarkable personal accomplishment and a powerful example of what dedication, experience, perseverance, and passion can achieve.
From Teslić to the heights of the Himalayas, Željko Sekulić has shown that determination and love for the mountains can push the limits of what seems possible.
