FRAGRANT, DELICATE AND AROMATIC: ELDERFLOWER LIQUEUR IS SPRING’S TRUE ELIXIR IN A BOTTLE

Ingredients:

20–25 fresh elderflower heads

1 L grape brandy or mild fruit brandy (vodka also works if you prefer a lighter taste)

500 g sugar

1 lemon (sliced)

Preparation:

This liqueur is simple to make from fresh elderflowers and is perfect for sipping in small doses or as an addition to cocktails and desserts.

In a large jar or glass container, layer the cleaned elderflower heads and lemon slices. Sprinkle the sugar on top. Pour over the brandy until everything is submerged, and seal the jar tightly. Leave in a sunny or warm spot for 10–15 days. Shake the jar occasionally to help the sugar dissolve.

Tip:

Pick elderflowers far from roads, on dry, sunny days – that’s when they have the strongest aroma and the most pollen, which gives the liqueur its special fragrance.
