This natural gem is situated at an altitude of 1488 meters above sea level, stretching 200 meters in length, 100 meters in width, and reaching depths of up to 7 meters. Lake Šator is of glacial origin, surrounded by the imposing slopes and peaks of Veliki and Mali Šator, as well as Babina Greda.

These majestic cliffs rise above the lake with an elevation difference of over 400 meters, creating breathtaking views. The landscape is further enriched by the so-called Devil's Gardens on Babina Greda. The slopes are densely covered with mountain pine shrubs, and on the northern sides, you can find the rare and protected Edelweiss flower.

On the southwestern side of the lake lies the Šator Spring, a source of pure mountain water, while on the opposite, northeastern side, there is a siphon that maintains a constant water level in the lake. During the summer, the lake’s water temperature is a pleasant 17°C, while the spring water on the shore remains at a constant 6°C.

In winter, the lake transforms into a true winter wonderland, frozen from December to April, with ice thickness reaching up to 70 cm. The lake’s water is crystal clear, with visibility up to 4 meters, offering a view of the underwater world rich with Potamogeton plants, which give the lake its green hue.

The lake is home to native species such as frogs and aquatic lizards, contributing to the biodiversity of this unique ecosystem. Special attention is given to the protection of Lake Šator, with the Assembly of Canton 10 declaring the lake and the nearby Lednica Cave as eco-zones of special interest. A professional study, prepared by the municipality of Bosansko Grahovo, outlines measures for the protection and preservation of this natural treasure.

A few hundred meters north of the lake lies Bulino Spring, believed by locals to have healing properties. From this spring flows the Mlinski Stream, which merges with the Šator Stream to form the Unac River.

Access to Lake Šator is possible from the road leading from Bosansko Grahovo to Livno, through the village of Gornje Peulje. If you take this route, be sure to bring a camera, as the sights that await you are truly breathtaking.
