This innovative tool offers citizens, tourists and all interested users a unique opportunity to digitally explore the country’s most important locations, sites and attractions through Google Maps

During the official presentation in Sarajevo, Armin Hamidović, Director of Operations for Google Maps, expressed his satisfaction that a long-developed project has finally been launched in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“We are happy to launch Street View in Bosnia and Herzegovina today, allowing our users to virtually explore the country’s most beautiful locations. This is a major step forward for BiH cartography. The possibilities this service brings to local companies and individuals are truly endless,” Hamidović said.

Thanks to Street View, businesses can integrate images and maps to help customers find their locations more easily, while tourists can plan their trips by viewing landmarks, cities and countless other attractions. Hamidović emphasized that the goal is to support small and medium-sized businesses, strengthen their digital presence and help them achieve better results.

“The whole world can now see what Bosnia and Herzegovina looks like on the map, share this data with friends and prepare for travel. We started this process in 2024, and we will update the maps every year because this is a seasonal job. The base map of BiH is now much better, which will help all other services improve their functionality. We believe we have mapped all major cities—maybe we missed a road or two, but we will fix that,” he added.

The project was implemented with special attention to privacy protection and full compliance with all relevant regulations.

Street View uses advanced technology that automatically blurs faces and license plates. Google also offers simple tools for reporting issues, allowing users to request additional blurring of houses, vehicles or individuals if needed.

Jasmin Ćatić, representative of the Federal Administration for Geodetic and Property-Legal Affairs (FGU), highlighted the broader importance of the service.

“The arrival of Google Street View in Bosnia and Herzegovina is significant because it builds upon our cooperation with Google in sharing spatial data from the territorial and address registers of the Federation. This is another step toward open, reliable and modern spatial data and services that connect BiH with global digital platforms and bring real benefits to every citizen,” Ćatić stated.

Using Google Street View vehicles, over 30,000 kilometers of roads have been recorded—from Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Mostar to Trebinje, Tuzla, Zenica, Bijeljina, Bihać and many other areas. The result is a rich collection of panoramic images that enable virtual tours through Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most iconic sites.

The platform now features major national landmarks, including the Sarajevo City Hall, Baščaršija, UNESCO monuments in Mostar, Višegrad and Stolac, the Kastel fortress in Banja Luka, as well as breathtaking views of the Vrbas River.

Google Street View uses specialized vehicles equipped with panoramic cameras to capture detailed, realistic and immersive imagery, allowing users to “walk through” streets, cities, historic sites and natural landscapes from anywhere in the world. This technology brings Bosnia and Herzegovina closer to global audiences, showcasing its cultural heritage, natural beauty and urban life in a truly accessible and authentic way.
