The magazine Time Out has crowned the ham and butter sandwich from the bistro Le Petit Vendôme in Paris as the best sandwich in the world.
A baguette is much more than just a long, crispy loaf of bread—it is a symbol of the French capital and perhaps even more than that. This particular type of bread has helped one Parisian bistro earn the title for its specialty—the best sandwich in the world.
Sandwiches are a universal dish, with every region of the planet having its own version of a delicious filling between two slices of bread. Time Out asked members of its global network of contributors to compile a list of the best sandwiches, and in fierce competition, the jambon beurre from Le Petit Vendôme emerged as the winner.
“They are made to order and prepared right in front of you using award-winning baguettes from Julien bakery, pieces of incredibly fresh butter, and high-quality ham. If you could eat, feel, and smell the City of Light, this would be it,” describes Time Out Paris correspondent Tina Meyer.
Le Petit Vendôme is a classic small Parisian restaurant, a true bistro that Time Out describes as "hell for vegans and paradise for meat lovers."
Parisians enjoy sandwiches every day, whether it's a quick lunch before heading back to work or a picnic in the park.
The restaurant sells around a hundred of these "world’s best sandwiches" daily, and to taste this masterpiece of ham and butter, you’ll need to spend six euros, according to RTS.
