During the excavation, archaeologists carefully removed surface layers of soil, uncovering Orthodox gravestones that had remained hidden for centuries. The findings have revealed an exceptionally valuable historical site, now considered one of the most significant archaeological locations in Western Slavonia.

The research was led by archaeologist Krešimir Vacek, who headed the team responsible for the excavation.

According to a statement from the Serb National Council, special thanks were extended to Mirsada Popović Damjanović, as well as to the Department of Culture of the Serb National Council, the event organizers, and the Pakrac City Museum for their support and cooperation.

Following the visit to the archaeological site, a presentation of the research findings was held at the restored Spahija’s Cellar in Pakrac, where experts and guests had the opportunity to learn more about the historical significance of the site.

The discovery sheds new light on the cultural and spiritual heritage of the region and represents an important contribution to the understanding of Orthodox history in Western Slavonia.
