A modern spa and recreational center named "Terme Banjaluka" is set to open soon in the largest city of the Republic of Srpska.
The Institute for Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation, and Orthopedic Surgery "Dr Miroslav Zotović" began the realization of the project “Spa and Recreational Center Šeher” in 2019, with the goal of modernizing and reviving one of Banjaluka’s most iconic locations. Construction is now complete.
The use of thermal waters in the Srpske Toplice neighborhood has a long-standing tradition and holds significant potential for health tourism and wellness programs. Historical traces of thermal water usage in the area date back to ancient Roman times, with thermal baths along the Vrbas River frequently mentioned in travelogues from the 17th and 18th centuries.
The Banjaluka neighborhood of Srpske Toplice (formerly Gornji Šeher, and before that Ilidža), where the center is located, is the city’s oldest district known for its thermal springs and as the natural habitat of the rare fern with the enchanting name — "maidenhair fern" (Adiantum capillus-veneris).
Due to the unique landscape shaped by the use of thermal mineral waters, the area around the spa center has been placed under protection and designated a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The “Terme Banjaluka” complex will feature indoor and outdoor pools, wellness areas including saunas, salt rooms, massage spaces, hydrotherapy zones, and exercise halls — all designed to offer high-quality, modern, and sustainable use of the natural thermal water resource.
With reconstruction now complete, the official opening of the spa and recreational center is expected very soon.
