German retail giant Lidl is continuing to expand its plans for entering the Bosnia and Herzegovina market, with its future retail network expected to cover nearly 30 cities across the country.
According to currently available information,
the company is linked to projects in 27 cities, including completed facilities,
active construction sites, and locations that are in various stages of
planning. Compared with previously announced locations, new reports indicate
that Lidl is preparing to build stores in Prijedor and Cazin, as well as a
second supermarket in the southern part of Mostar.
Several additional projects have recently been
confirmed, including stores in the Business Zone in Vitez, Čapljina, and
Sarajevo's Koševo district, underscoring the retailer's accelerated
preparations ahead of its market launch in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to BiznisInfo.ba, Lidl currently has
confirmed or planned projects in Kakanj, Zvornik, Gradiška, Bihać, Livno, East
Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Gračanica, Mostar, Trebinje, Bijeljina, Doboj, Zenica,
Brčko, Modriča, Laktaši, Travnik, Sarajevo, Čapljina, Tešanj, Kiseljak, Čitluk,
Živinice, Prnjavor, Vitez, Prijedor, and Cazin.
Unofficial reports also suggest that Lidl may
open stores in Široki Brijeg and Sanski Most, which would increase the total
number of planned locations to 29. This aligns with earlier announcements that
the retailer intends to establish supermarkets in around 30 cities during the
initial phase of its operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
HERZEGOVINA BECOMES A KEY REGION
One of the latest developments is Lidl's
reported plan to open a second supermarket in southern Mostar, indicating that
the company sees the largest city in Herzegovina as a strategically important
market.
In addition to Mostar, Lidl is already
developing or preparing projects in Čapljina, Čitluk, Livno, and Trebinje,
making Herzegovina one of the retailer's priority regions for future expansion.
FURTHER GROWTH IN NORTHWESTERN BOSNIA
The planned arrival of Lidl in Prijedor and
Cazin will further strengthen the company's presence in northwestern Bosnia and
Herzegovina.
Cazin is considered a particularly attractive
market due to its status as one of the largest cities in the Una-Sana Canton,
its strong purchasing power, and a large diaspora community. The addition of
Cazin to Lidl's expansion plans reflects the company's strategy of filling
geographical gaps in its future retail network.
PREPARATIONS ENTER THE FINAL STAGE
Several previously reported projects have now
been officially confirmed, including the Koševo location in Sarajevo, the
Business Zone development in Vitez, and a supermarket in the future shopping
zone of Tasovčići near Čapljina, one of the busiest commercial areas in
Herzegovina.
With an extensive list of confirmed locations,
Lidl appears to be entering the final phase of preparations before launching
operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Among the country's largest cities, Tuzla
remains the most notable location without a confirmed Lidl project. Earlier
reports suggested that the company encountered difficulties securing suitable
land for development there.
Although the company has not officially
announced an opening date, industry sources expect Lidl's first supermarkets in
Bosnia and Herzegovina to welcome customers sometime next year.
