A Chinese entrepreneur, Junan Chai, is set to launch business operations in Republika Srpska, where his company—representing the global biotech giant "BGI"—is expected to open the first laboratory in the region dedicated to various medical research services. These include prenatal testing and screening for different types of cancer, according to a statement from the Investment and Development Bank (IRB) of Republika Srpska.
The announcement followed a meeting between Chai and the IRB delegation in Shanghai, marking the conclusion of their visit to China for the "China – CEEC Expo," an international trade fair showcasing cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries.
“We will be the first company of this kind in Republika Srpska. I’m very pleased with the investment climate here, particularly when it comes to tax policy. I look forward to our collaboration,” said Chai during the meeting.
The IRB further explained that BGI employs nearly 40,000 people worldwide and that Chai has already begun the process of registering the company in Republika Srpska.
During the international expo, the IRB delegation, led by acting director Srđan Jovanović, held a series of meetings with Chinese business representatives and secured their participation in the upcoming "Invest Srpska" regional investment event, organized annually by the IRB.
In addition to meetings held at the Ningbo expo, the IRB team visited several Chinese companies to present the investment opportunities available in Republika Srpska.
The "China – CEEC Expo" took place in the city of Ningbo from May 22 to 25. As the largest investment event between China and Central and Eastern Europe, the fair featured infrastructure, energy, and tourism projects from Republika Srpska.
The IRB representatives were part of a broader delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of the Council of Ministers, with support and coordination from Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Ambassador to China, Siniša Berjan.
