The tourism potential of Mount Majevica is gaining increasing recognition among both local and international visitors. One standout example is the popular excursion site Busija, which has recently recorded an all-time high in tourist numbers.
Ambitious
local entrepreneurs are expanding the range of attractions, providing more and
more reasons to visit this natural gem located at the crossroads of Lopare,
Brčko, and Tuzla. Strong support is also coming from the Government of
Republika Srpska.
Situated
at an altitude of 850 meters, Busija enchants visitors with its unspoiled
nature and exceptionally clean air filtered through centuries-old trees. Many
tourists and day-trippers choose this spot to relax and connect with nature.
Investors, with the help of the Government of Republika Srpska as well as local municipalities such as Lopare and Bijeljina, are steadily developing this site’s tourism infrastructure.
The
first step was the construction of a proper access road. This was followed by
the creation of an artificial lake, the development of two ski slopes, the
opening of a restaurant, and the construction of vacation homes and apartments.
“We
need to pave at least one kilometer of the 2.5-kilometer-long trail, which will
be lit and designated for pedestrians, cyclists, and a tourist train. There are
many plans—what we need is time, goodwill, and a bit of state support to finish
paving the remaining 5.5 kilometers,” said Svetozar Ostojić, director of the
company Green Hills.
The
largest crowds gather at the Busija Lake during the traditional Epiphany
cross-swimming event. Currently, construction is underway on a church dedicated
to Saint Stephen.
“With
the blessing of Metropolitan Fotije, the foundations have already been
consecrated. God willing, we expect the church to be completed and consecrated
by next summer,” Ostojić added.
Thanks
to a government decision, a larger area of previously unused land has been
allocated to the Busija excursion site. New features are being added daily.
Plans
for the near future include the installation of a ski lift and even a roller
coaster, all set to be ready by next winter. For now, a conveyor belt lift has
already been installed for young skiers, who are currently enjoying a unique
toboggan run nestled in the pine forest.
