Along the main road connecting Sarajevo and Foča, just downstream from Dobro Polje, lies a remarkable geomorphological wonder — a river tunnel cave carved by the Bistrica River.
The
Bistrica River has, over time, sculpted a բնական tunnel through solid rock,
forging its own path through the mountain. According to the platform Upoznaj
Srpsku, this rare natural formation stands as a testament to the قوة and
persistence of natural processes.
The
tunnel is located right next to the main road, alongside an artificial tunnel
constructed during the development of the roadway, making it easily noticeable
to passersby. It stretches approximately 100 meters in length and reaches a
height of around 30 meters.
Locally, the formation is also known as “Samar,” due to its resemblance to a traditional saddle used for horses.
Such natural occurrences are extremely rare and
highlight the extraordinary beauty shaped by geological forces over time.
However,
despite its accessibility, the section of the road that passes through this
canyon lacks designated stopping areas where vehicles could safely pull over.
There are no viewpoints for travelers to fully appreciate the breathtaking
scenery.
Concerns
remain about the potential impact of planned mini hydroelectric power plants on
the Bistrica River. There is hope that future development will not jeopardize
this unique natural landmark — one that few countries in the world can claim.
