The Republic Hydrometeorological Institute of Srpska has issued an official warning regarding a sharp rise in temperatures and an intense heatwave expected to hit the region in the coming days.
According to their announcement, the weather
in the days ahead will be marked by extreme heat and soaring temperatures. The
forecasted maximum temperatures are as follows:
Based on current forecasts, localized cloud development with rain showers and thunderstorms is expected to begin on August 12 in the southern regions, and in other areas from the evening of Friday, August 15, continuing through the weekend of August 16 and 17.
Due to the extreme temperatures, the
Department of Civil Protection and the Professional Territorial Fire-Rescue
Unit of the City of Banja Luka is urging citizens to take additional
precautions, follow official recommendations, and refrain from lighting fires
in open areas.
"Extremely high temperatures can
seriously endanger human health. We urge citizens to avoid prolonged or
unnecessary exposure to the sun, wear light clothing and footwear, and stay
hydrated to prevent heatstroke or sunstroke," the Civil Protection
Department stated.
The department also issued an appeal to
employers to ensure proper protection for workers performing duties outdoors.
Moreover, due to increased risk of wildfires,
citizens are strongly advised not to light fires outdoors and to strictly
follow safety guidelines in order to protect both themselves and the
environment.
In addition, an appeal has been made to all
water consumers to use water responsibly and sparingly, prioritizing drinking
water only for essential needs, and showing solidarity in times of high demand.
Considering the serious health risks posed by
extreme heat, it is crucial to follow the guidelines issued by the Ministry of
Health and Social Welfare of Republika Srpska to stay safe during this period.
