Between Jajce in the south and Banja Luka in the north stretches one of the most captivating natural gems of Bosnia and Herzegovina — the Vrbas Canyon, protected as a natural landscape reserve since 1955.
This striking area is formed by two smaller but equally dramatic gorges: Podmilačje and Tijesno.
Carving its way through limestone cliffs over centuries, the Vrbas River has created a landscape of sharp rock walls, hidden coves, and cool canyon shadows — a unique ecosystem where numerous endemic and relict plant and animal species have survived.
For adventure seekers, the canyon is a true playground. Kayaking, canoeing, rafting, climbing — it’s all here. With 31 kilometers of river suitable for water sports, it’s no surprise that both World and European Rafting Championships have been hosted right in this canyon.
Recently, photo walks through the canyon have grown in popularity, offering visitors the chance to experience its beauty at a slower pace. The magic of the Vrbas was brought even closer to the public by photographer Miodrag Gajić, who shared stunning images of the canyon on social media, capturing the attention of nature lovers across the region.
