Although we often hear about yellow, orange, and red weather alerts, many of us don't actually know what they mean. Therefore, we consulted meteorologists to get an explanation.
There
are four types of weather alerts represented by four different colors, each
indicating the level of danger that citizens should be aware of.
In
recent times, we've frequently seen various warnings due to certain weather
conditions. With meteorologists forecasting high temperatures in the coming
days, it's likely that some of these alerts will be activated.
According
to meteorologists, these alerts can be triggered by extreme temperatures as
well as showers accompanied by thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail.
In
Bosnia and Herzegovina, there are two meteorological institutes: the
Hydrometeorological Institute of the Republika Srpska and the Federal
Hydrometeorological Institute of BiH. Each of these institutes issues warnings
for their respective territories via weather alerts.
As
mentioned, there are four colors. The first one is green, which, according to
meteorologists, poses no danger.
"A
green weather alert does not indicate any danger and can safely be ignored as
it poses no threat to citizens," they explain.
However, when the alert changes to yellow, certain dangers for citizens begin to arise.
"Yellow
indicates potentially hazardous weather conditions. While the expected weather
is not unusual, it can disrupt planned activities," meteorologists say.
Orange
and red alerts warn citizens of more significant dangers.
"These
alerts indicate hazardous weather conditions that occur infrequently but can
pose a threat to people and property due to their intensity,"
meteorologists explain.
They
advise special caution and adherence to the recommendations of relevant
authorities when these alerts are active.
"Red
alert is the highest level of warning, issued for extremely dangerous weather
conditions. In such situations, citizens should be extremely cautious, follow
advice from relevant institutions, and be prepared to take measures to mitigate
potential consequences," meteorologists told Nezavisne Novine.
Republika
Srpska has five regions for which weather alerts are issued, generally named
after the largest cities in those regions.
The
Republika Srpska Hydrometeorological Institute and the Federal Hydrometeorological
Institute have issued a yellow alert starting today, for maximum temperatures
reaching up to 35 degrees Celsius.
They
state that yellow alert is in effect for temperatures between 32 and 35
degrees, orange for temperatures from 35 to 38 degrees, and red alert for
temperatures above 38 degrees.
