A site from Republika Srpska has once again earned global recognition, as the prestigious magazine Time Out included Janjske Otoke near Šipovo on its list of the 51 most beautiful places on the planet.
Alongside
world-famous natural wonders such as the Grand Canyon and Victoria Falls, this
hidden gem from Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to captivate international
attention.
“While
the world is only beginning to discover many of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s
natural wonders, the tranquility of Janjske Otoke near Šipovo is on another
level,” Time Out noted. The area is described as a network of small islands
connected by charming wooden bridges, surrounded by crystal-clear streams and
cascading waterfalls.
Adding
to its appeal is the nearby Janj Primeval Forest, a protected natural reserve
recognized by UNESCO. Its remarkable biodiversity and untouched beauty further
enhance the uniqueness of the entire region.
This is not the first time Janjske Otoke have been featured on the list. The magazine also highlighted the site last year, confirming its growing reputation as a must-visit destination for nature lovers worldwide.
The
area is rich in waterfalls, streams, and natural cascades stretching across the
entire landscape. It offers excellent conditions for activities such as fishing
and hunting, while visitors can also enjoy authentic rural experiences through
accommodation in local households.
The
Janj Primeval Forest, located nearby, holds special significance as the first
natural site from Republika Srpska to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage
List. Recognized in 2021, this ancient beech forest stands out for its global
ecological importance and extraordinary natural value.
For
nature enthusiasts and digital nomads seeking peace and inspiration, this
recognition serves as a perfect invitation to explore the heart of Šipovo and
the Janj plateau—and to discover firsthand why this remarkable destination has
become a global sensation.
