Zemun is beautiful throughout the year, but during the holiday season it takes on a special kind of warmth that always draws us back.
A relaxed walk through its streets almost inevitably ends with a camera full of lovely photos, and these festive winter scenes – with twinkling lights, decorated shopfronts and the Danube as a backdrop – feel especially magical.
We’re not big fans of Christmas markets, so we only made a short stop at the Zemun Winter Fair, just enough to capture a few beautiful shots. If you’re planning a visit, we recommend coming around 12 PM, when the crowds are smaller, especially at the ice rink.
We also wandered through Zemun’s bohemian streets and photographed some of the most beautifully decorated cafés and restaurants, giving you a little guide on where to stop for coffee or warm up with a comforting meal.
Even in winter, Zemun lives up to its reputation as the largest bohemian quarter in the Balkans – understated, charming and endlessly photogenic.
