If there’s one dessert that every housewife makes, whether young or not, it's apple pie. And each of them has some secret ingredient known only to her, which makes her pie so delicious.
Although you can make a lazy apple pie, the simple apple pie made with store-bought pastry sheets is much more common. Not only is it an extremely moist and tasty dessert, but it’s also very quick and easy to prepare. On top of that, it’s quite affordable, especially if you have home-grown apples on hand, writes kadkakozasto.com.
One of the secrets many housewives jealously guard when it comes to apple pie recipes is the type of apples used. It’s important that they are juicy and, if possible, home-grown.
For the ingredients, you will need the following:
Half a kilogram of thin pastry sheets
About 1.5 kilograms of juicy apples
About 200 grams of granulated sugar
1-2 sachets of vanilla sugar
Half a sachet of baking powder
50-100 ml of oil
About 100 grams of semolina
Cinnamon, to taste
Keep in mind that apple pie is actually quite easy to make. If rolling the pie stresses you out, especially if it’s your first time making this dessert, don’t worry. The pie will taste the same whether you roll it or simply layer it, one sheet at a time. It’s certainly easier to prepare that way.
In this case, just place two pastry sheets at the bottom of the baking dish and save one for the top to "tuck in" the pie, as older housewives would say. It’s also a good idea to add two sheets in the middle of the pie to make it more compact and easier to cut.
The best apple pie is prepared as follows:
Peel and coarsely grate the apples.
Mix the baking powder with about 200 ml of water and add a bit of oil. You will use this mixture to brush each sheet before rolling the pie and also to coat the pie before baking.
Then separate the pastry sheets. The best apple pie is made using 3 or maybe 4 sheets.
Grease the baking dish and preheat the oven while you prepare the pie.
Lay the first sheet on the work surface and brush it with the prepared mixture of baking powder, oil, and water. Place the second sheet on top and brush it as well, then add a small amount of grated apples. Finally, cover everything with the third sheet, which is the most important. Spread the filling evenly over the third sheet, then sprinkle it with sugar, semolina, and cinnamon if desired. Carefully roll the sheets into a log and place it in the greased baking dish.
Repeat the process until you have used up all the sheets.
Before putting the pie in the oven, make sure to brush it with the remaining mixture that you used to brush the individual sheets.
Bake the pie in a well-preheated oven until it turns golden brown. Once you take it out of the oven, cover it with a dry cloth and let it cool.
Apple pie is usually served dusted with powdered sugar.
