Extreme weather conditions can pose serious health risks, especially to vulnerable groups such as young children, the elderly, pregnant women, overweight individuals, and those with chronic illnesses (heart and vascular diseases, respiratory conditions, diabetes, etc.).

Cool the Rooms You Spend the Most Time In

Try to cool the rooms where you spend the most time, especially if they are occupied by children, pregnant women, individuals over 60, and those with chronic health issues. The temperature in these rooms should not exceed 30°C during the day and 24°C at night.

Stay in the Coolest Room

Stay in the coolest room of your house or apartment, especially at night.

Open Windows Wide at Night

Use the cooler night air to cool your home. If possible, leave all windows open during the night and early morning, with blinds up, to adequately ventilate and cool the space.

Turn Off Lights and Unused Devices

Light bulbs and many electrical devices emit heat and warm the surrounding air. During the day, turn off lights and unplug all devices you are not using.

Lower Blinds on the Sunny Side During the Day

Reduce the amount of hot air entering your home. During the day, close doors and windows and lower the blinds on the sunny side to keep as much heat out as possible.

Use Curtains, Drapes, or Awnings

Place curtains, drapes, or awnings on windows exposed to the sun. You can also spread wet towels around the room, but keep in mind that this increases air humidity.

Adjusting the Air Conditioner Temperature

If you have an air conditioner, close doors and windows to avoid wasting energy. Set the temperature no lower than 7°C below the outdoor temperature.

How Much Can Fans Help

Electric fans can provide relief and refreshment, but if the air temperature is above 35°C, they won't prevent heat-related health issues. However, they will help with faster air exchange when you cool your home with fresh air in the evening.

What to Do if Your Home Is Still Too Hot

If you cannot keep your home adequately cooled, spend two to three hours a day in another cooled space (e.g., a public building, library, shopping center, etc.).
