The PTT Museum offers interesting content for everyone interested in the history of communications. Visitors can explore a rich collection of old postage stamps, equipment and letters, while also following the development of postal services through the decades.
The museum is an ideal place for short educational tours, family visits and photography enthusiasts, while also providing an engaging insight into the cultural and technical history of the country.
More than a century of tradition
“The PTT Museum is one of the most important technical museums of this kind in the region,” said Marko Jelić, head of the museum, in a statement to the organization Balkan Trip.
“We have existed for 103 years. The museum was founded on July 31, 1923, as the Museum of Post, Telephone and Telegraph. Just like the name suggests, we preserve that tradition. Today we have eight collections where we try in different ways to present our rich history to the public,” Jelić added.
The post as an important part of society
According to him, the postal service has played a crucial role in the functioning of the state and society.
“The post was and still is the state. Without the postal service, the system cannot function. Letters, postcards, telegrams, important mail and shipments could not be sent. The most important documents for establishing employment relationships are also sent and received by mail. When someone is born, or when someone is no longer with us, the post notifies the family in the traditional way. The postal service is therefore a part without which neither the state nor our society could function,” Jelić concluded, as reported by Balkan Trip.
