DISCOVER THE CITY WHERE TIRAMISU WAS BORN

You won't find recommendations to visit these places on standard tourist maps, but once your journey takes you there, you'll wonder, "Why didn't I come here sooner?" Treviso is one such place, and one reason its value isn't highlighted more often is likely the fierce competition from its neighboring cities.

Treviso is located in the Veneto region, just a half-hour drive from Venice, which tends to steal all the attention. When you add the fact that Padua is only 45 minutes away, unfortunate Treviso stands little chance of being marked as another must-see destination. But don't make the same mistake—give Treviso a chance.

And if you're planning to visit Venice and Padua, this city is an excellent starting point. Additionally, there's the Antonio Canova Airport, which is popular due to the solid number of flights offered by low-cost airlines.

What is there to see and do in this city of just over 80,000 people? I personally recommend, above all, a walk through the old part of the city and a tour of its walls. There are also many churches, some more significant than others, and you can even take a ride through the canals, which are far less crowded than those in Venice.

As in every Italian city, it's a great idea to sit down in one of the small streets and order an Aperol Spritz, often served with a bowl of chips or olives so you can have a little snack. Prices? The last time I visited the city was about five years ago, and I remember drinking Aperol for a popular 3 euros. Yes, it's probably a bit more today, but considering that we've already gotten used to European prices at home—you won't be shocked by the prices here.

The world owes Treviso at least two globally recognized things. Although a battle has been waged between the regions of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto, it is believed that one of the most famous desserts, tiramisu, originated right in this city. And there's no dispute over the second thing: this is where (more precisely, in a small town 6 kilometers away) the famous fashion brand Benetton was born. If you're visiting, treat yourself to a shirt or a pair of pants from the city where it all began.
