Technologies such as artificial intelligence introduce new challenges and pose additional threats in the digital transformation processes of the economy in the Republic of Srpska, said Slobodan Dragičević, Secretary of the Information and Communication Technologies Association at the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Srpska.
Dragičević emphasized that the digitalization of the industrial sector offers numerous advantages in terms of organizing businesses and accessing specific markets but also presents significant challenges.
“We aim to educate representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Republic of Srpska so they can adapt and secure their information systems and the data they use,” Dragičević stated to reporters in Banja Luka, where a roundtable discussion was held on the topic “Cybersecurity and Innovative Network Technologies in Industry – Challenges and Trends.”
He pointed out that SMEs face dilemmas regarding cybersecurity during the process of digital transformation and the implementation of new systems. It is crucial for them to learn how to combat cyberattacks using technical tools and methods.
Dragičević announced the initiation of a proposal to introduce a study program focused on cyber and industrial security, which is highly attractive to young people and vital for the digital transformation process.
Gordana Gardašević, a full professor at the Telecommunications Department of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Banja Luka, highlighted the importance of updating academic programs. She noted that the rise of new digital technologies has made security a central issue in technology development.
“It is time to educate a new generation of students, equipping them with insights into the latest trends in the development of new technologies,” Gardašević said.
Jovana Urumović, a cybersecurity engineer at eBay, expressed her desire to inspire students to join future study programs and raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity.
